Eligibility and Art Festival Description
Commonwheel Artists 50th Annual Labor Day Art Festival is held over the three-day Labor Day weekend. This Fine Art and Craft Festival is one of the oldest in Colorado. The Art Festival is located in Historic Manitou Springs at the base of Pikes Peak. Its small-town atmosphere adds appeal to this high-class event, only minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. Over 12,000 art patrons from all along the Front Range, including Denver and Boulder come to this festival each year.
Commonwheel aims to present a high-quality show at a reasonable cost to the artists who are juried into the art festival. The jury choses quality artists to create a balanced mix of media categories that represent unique, creative work with price points to appeal to and attract a broad audience of art buyers to the art festival.
The Commonwheel Art Festival showcases 100 booths of juried fine art and contemporary crafts handmade in the USA, unique food vendors and live music in a beautiful outdoor setting. Memorial Park is a lovely, partially shaded park bordered by Fountain Creek with views of beautiful surrounding hillsides.
This is a juried art festival of original art work handcrafted by the artist. Categories include, but not limited to: jewelry, pottery, glass, painting, photography, fiber, metal and wood and other fine art forms.
All artwork must be hand crafted by the artist. The jury focuses on original artwork as important when considering applications. Prints of artist’s original art and photographs are acceptable for sale at the Art Festival. Artist may only show and sell work from the category in which they have been accepted. Artist must be present at show (no reps or agents). Resale or wholesale items are not permitted.
Digital files submitted for jurying must be a non-altered representation of the actual artwork to be considered for exhibition. Artists can visit the website to see restrictions and fill out the on-line application.
This is a Waste Wise Festival and food vendors must comply with regulations regarding food service ware. In 2021 50% of the art festival’s waste was diverted from the landfill.
We have an extensive event targeted marketing, and promotion campaign to better market, recognize, and celebrate our festival artists with well placed advertising in prominent magazines and newspapers and outreach through social media, radio and television. Our marketing includes: regionally targeted press releases, print advertising, magazine ads, email newsletters, rack cards, extensive social media outreach, posters, street banners, newspaper articles, radio and television.
The Commonwheel Art Festival includes live entertainment, unique food vendors, giant soap bubbles, and more! Local musicians perform all three days on an outdoor stage.
The goal of the festival is to provide a “Celebration of the Arts” by exhibiting the finest visual and performing arts experiences in Manitou Springs. Visitors tend to bring their whole families for a weekend of high quality art, local music, and unique food offerings.
